When Hercules, the exceptional 665/8” Dries Visser kudu bull was sold for a record-breaking R9.4m in 2015, it signalled the kudu has taken up its rightful place as one of high value game’s top species.

The Hercules sale was the catalyst for the creation of Greater Kudu Club. Three respected game breeding groups came together to form a club of only the best possible kudu genetics. Dries Visser Pure-Bred Game, Meletse Game Breeders and Piet du Toit Wildbedryf have used their collective kudu breeding expertise to pool the best kudu bulls and cows in the country. The breeding bulls Hercules (665/8”), Apollo (68 4/8”) and the young bull Mr Universe (widely regarded as the bull with the biggest horn potential in South Africa), form the nucleus from which truly exceptional kudu genetics will be produced.

Scarce game breeding is well established as one of the most exciting investment opportunities in South Africa. The next major category in game breeding is seen as quality plains game. This makes investing in exceptional kudu genetics the next logical step. By using the biggest bulls with top cows bred up from within these bulls’ existing herds, Greater Kudu Club will be able to produce quality sought after kudu genetics, ready for investment.
